Belize is home to an estimated 700 butterfly species and many of these can be viewed in the wild, particularly in the inland rainforests. Belize is also home to some incredible butterfly farms and this can be a great way to spot a wide range of butterflies, including one of the most famous species of butterfly in Belize - The Blue Morpho.

1. Green Hills Butterfly Ranch
The Green Hills Butterfly Ranch is located on Mountain Pine Ridge in the Cayo District of Belize. It is home to the largest live butterfly display in Belize and several native butterfly species are reared at the farm. The spectacular Blue Morpho is one of the main attractions at the butterfly farm. Visitors can also enjoy the gift shop and outside picnic area.

2. The Blue Morpho Butterfly Farm at Chaa Creek
The Lodge At Chaa Creek is also home to The Blue Morpho Butterfly Farm. It is located just a short drive from San Ignacio Town at the foothill of the Maya Mountains. The farm rears the Blue Morpho butterfly or affectionately known as The "Belizean Blue". This is a wonderful place to observe and learn about this beautiful species of butterfly throughout its lifecycle. The butterfly farm is open daily from 8 am to 5 pm and guided tours are offered in conjunction with tours of the Natural History Centre and begin on the hour every hour with the last tour starting at 4:00 pm.

3. Tropical Wings Ecocenter Butterfly Farm
The Tropical Wings Ecocenter Butterfly Farm is located in the Cayo District of Belize, six miles west of San Ignacio. It is home to a large variety of butterflies, all of which are raised from eggs to pupae. The butterfly farm is open daily from 9 am to 5 pm and it is also a great place to walk the beautifully landscaped gardens.
4. Fallen Stones Butterfly Farm
The Fallen Stones Butterfly Farm is located near Punta Gorda in the Toledo District of southern Belize. In 1992, Clive Farrell, owner of the Stratford-upon-Avon Butterfly Farm in the UK founded the butterfly farm. Many of the beautiful butterflies on display at the Stratford-upon-Avon Butterfly Farm are supplied by his farm here in Belize. Eight different butterfly species are raised with the majority being the Blue Morpho and the Owl Butterfly.
Please note that visits to the Fallen Stones Butterfly Farm are only available for guests staying at the onsite Hickatee Cottages.
5. The Butterfly Garden at the Shipstern Nature Reserve
The Shipstern Nature Reserve is located in the Corozal District of Belize, near the village of Sarteneja. It was established as a private Nature Reserve in 1987 and it covers an area of more than 27,000 acres of protected habitats. It is also home to a butterfly garden and breeding centre. As well as the butterfly gardens, guests can enjoy a variety of trails, a visitor information centre and a 65-ft observation tower that offers spectacular views of the whole nature reserve.
